Founded in 1994, Toptots was created to give parents and caregivers an opportunity to spend meaningful, focused time with their little ones while supporting their development through purposeful play. Our age-specific programmes are designed around the developmental needs of each stage, supporting cognitive, emotional, social and physical development in a fun and nurturing environment.

Toptots Pietermaritzburg is owned and run by Trunelle van den Heever, who joined the Toptots family and opened her branch in May 2023. A mom to two young children herself, Trunelle also brings 17 years of teaching experience across the preschool and junior primary phases to her Toptots families.

Bubbly and engaging, Trunelle is committed to the parents and children who attend her classes and is always willing to go the extra mile for her families. Her extensive teaching background gives her a strong understanding of children's development and learning, which she brings into the playful and supportive environment of the Toptots programme.

Classes include a variety of age appropriate activities incorporating sensory and messy play, music, movement, fine and gross motor activities, perceptual development and creative exploration. Parents and caregivers are also given practical ideas and guidance that they can take home and continue using with their children between classes.

More than simply keeping little hands busy, every Toptots activity has a purpose. Through play, interaction and quality one on one time, we aim to support each child's development while strengthening the connection between parent and child.
