Toptots Umhlanga is part of the Toptots Parent & Child Workshop network, offering carefully designed early childhood development classes for babies and young children from 6 weeks to 4 years.

Founded in 1994, Toptots was created to give parents and caregivers an opportunity to spend meaningful, focused time with their little ones while supporting their development through purposeful play. Our age-specific programmes are designed around the developmental needs of each stage, supporting cognitive, emotional, social and physical development in a fun and nurturing environment.

Toptots Umhlanga is owned by Caitlin van Schalkwyk, a qualified foundation phase teacher and mom to two young children. Caitlin joined the Toptots family in 2021 when she purchased the Durban North branch, later moving the business to Umhlanga when she returned to full time teaching.

With her own professional background in education, Caitlin understands the importance of creating strong developmental foundations during the early years and remains involved in guiding and supporting her Toptots branch.

Since 2022, classes have been led by Jaclyn, Toptots Umhlanga's dedicated and trained Toptots teacher. Jaclyn has become a familiar face to the families attending the branch and provides continuity for the parents, caregivers and little ones who come through the programme.

Toptots Umhlanga operates from Reddam House Umhlanga, where the branch has a dedicated Toptots classroom and play area, providing a wonderful environment for little ones to learn, play and explore.

Classes include a variety of age appropriate activities incorporating sensory and messy play, music, movement, fine and gross motor activities, perceptual development and creative exploration. Parents and caregivers are also given practical ideas and guidance that they can take home and continue using with their children between classes.

More than simply keeping little hands busy, every Toptots activity has a purpose. Through play, interaction and quality one on one time, we aim to support each child's development while strengthening the connection between parent and child.
