As we stepped into 2025, I am felt incredibly hopeful and excited about all the progress Luna will continue to make. At three years old, she is at such a pivotal stage of growth, and we are focusing on a well-rounded approach to support her speech, physical, and overall development. If you’re on a similar journey with your little one, I hope our plans and resources provide guidance and encouragement for you too! It has been vital to keep things interesting for Luna and my goal has always been to have therapy not feel like therapy for Luna. So my idea for this year is to open up our world of developmental focus and share the resources I have designed to suit Luna’s age as well as the goals we set out for the year. If you know me well enough by now, you will know that I love to plan ahead, so here is what we will be working on:

Speech Therapy Goals & Resources

One of our biggest priorities this year is continuing to build Luna’s communication skills. Speech therapy has played a huge role in her development, and we are doubling down on strategies that work best for her. This includes:

Expanding Vocabulary – Encouraging more words, and forming sentences to help her express herself.
Repetition & Routine-Based Learning – Strengthening speech through everyday routines and structured play.
Therapist Collaboration – Working closely with Luna’s speech therapist while incorporating strategies into daily life at home.

To help other parents navigating speech development, I recently created a Speech Therapy Resource for recognizing a sound without looking at an image, identifying the animal, and pointing it out. You can download the PDF below to use with your own little one!

Physical Development: Strengthening & Mobility

Luna continues to amaze us with her determination, and in 2025, we are focusing on:

Core Strength & Stability – Working on improving balance and posture through targeted exercises. This is also to prevent spine curve.
Gross Motor Skills – Encouraging walking endurance, stair climbing, and increased mobility.
Fine Motor Skills – Engaging in activities that support hand strength and coordination, such as colouring, grasping, and buttoning.
OT Sessions – Keeping up with regular therapy sessions to refine movements and independence.
Gymnastics – Luna no longer does physio therapy but gymnastics which works on the same developmental goals but it is seen more as fun and is something she can continue.

Overall Development & Emotional Growth

Beyond the physical and speech milestones, we are also prioritizing Luna’s emotional and cognitive development by:

Encouraging Social Interaction – Setting up structured activities to enhance social skills. To be honest she doesn’t have much trouble socializing, its more communication that hinders the interaction.
Building Independence – Introducing more self-care tasks like dressing and feeding herself with minimal assistance. She is already so independent its more about redirecting it in a positive way.
Fostering Emotional Regulation – Teaching ways to express emotions and navigate big feelings in a healthy way.

How to use the resource:

Have the pages laminated and cut out. Download a farm animal sound app (there are many, I used “animal sound” from the Apple App Store) and you’re ready to go! Place the cards in front of your little one and start playing the animal sounds requesting that the correct animal card be given to you. And please remember this is supposed to be fun, don’t apply any unnecessary pressure.

It takes a village – now more than ever: Standing with Vulnerable Children

“It is easy to feel overwhelmed in these situations.
The African proverb states that it takes a village to raise a child, this means that an entire community of people must provide for and interact positively with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment.
Is this dated or can we be part of the village we so often talk about?”

Why I Took Postpartum Depression by the Horns

“I did what most mothers do: I tried to push through. I added more structure, more rest, more help. My husband stood beside me, steady and kind, while I did everything that was “right.” And yet, the anxiety would not lift..”
