This category includes organisations and facilities across South Africa that provide immediate, temporary protection for children and infants who are in crisis or cannot remain in their current environment. These safe spaces act as emergency care points while longer-term decisions are made regarding reunification, foster care, or placement in residential children’s homes.

This includes registered places of safety where children are cared for under protection services, as well as safe surrender points such as baby drop-off facilities designed to ensure newborns are received safely, legally, and with dignity. These environments prioritise immediate safety, stability, and protection during critical moments of vulnerability.
