Jakaranda & Louis Botha Kinderhuis

As registered Children’s Homes (Child and Youth Care Centres) we manage two campuses in Pretoria, Jakaranda Kinderhuis (NPO183-619) in East Lynne and Louis Botha Kinderhuis (NPO 181-992) in Queenswood. The children are placed in our care by the Children’s Court, after they are removed from their unfavourable circumstances. We provide them with therapy, medical care and a home where they can feel safe and loved. We also transport our children to and from 24 different schools in Pretoria daily.  With a capacity of 327 children aged between 3 – 18 years, we have and 9 houses (max 102 children) at Louis Botha Kinderhuis and 20 houses (max 225 children) at Jakaranda Kinderhuis. Our vision is to empower and enable all our children through skills development to reach their full potential and to one day be responsible adults who will make a difference in their respective communities.

The quarterly subsidy we receive from the Department of Social Development lately only covers a mere 43% of our expenses; for the difference we rely heavily on the community for support, involvement and donations. One of the most pressing needs are comprehensive therapy services for all our children. We firmly believe; and can testify to the positive results, that providing access to quality therapy can significantly contribute to their well-being and overall development. Hence, we need funds for forensic assessment and socio-emotional assessment, when children are placed with us to determine the level of therapy needed for each individual child. The specific types of therapy required and proved most beneficial for our children's unique situations include long-term therapy such as speech-, language-, occupational-, behaviour- and group therapy.
